Ben Ish Hai's Segula During Birkat Kohanim
“Yevarechecha Ad-nai veyishmerecha!”
“Ya'er Ad-nai panav elecha vichuneka!”
“Yisa Ad-nai panav elecha veyasem lecha shalom!”
(May G-d bless you and protect you!
May G-d shine His countenance upon you and be gracious to you!
May G-d turn His countenance toward you and grant you peace)! (Bamidbar 6:24–26)
Our website has already published a post entitled
“60 Bones and 2 ‘Lamed’ Letters in Birkat Kohanim” about the Priestly Blessing, explaining that it begins with the letter
“yud” and contains 15 words, with the letter
“yud” appearing in each of the first 13 words.
According to Kabbalah, these 13
“yud” letters correspond to the 13 Divine Attributes of Mercy—“Middot HaRachamim,” whose source is in the sphere of “Keter.” (Details here -

We also wrote that the
Zohar HaKadosh reveals the secret of the hands:
“Whoever takes care of the hands builds peace.”
Each hand has 10 fingers, and each hand has 14 phalanges: 2 on the thumb and 3 on each of the other fingers—for a total of 14.
The gematria of the word
“yad” (hand) = 14.
2 hands = 28 phalanges; 28 is the gematria of the word
“koach” (strength);
The entire arm consists of 3 joints:
1 – near the shoulder,
2 – the middle elbow joint (HaGaT—Chesed, Gevurah, Tiferet),
3 – the palm with the fingers (HaGaT—Chochmah); (

Ben Ish Hai (zechuto yagen aleinu) teaches that there is a worthwhile segula on Yom Kippur during Birkat Kohanim.
While the Kohanim recite the 15 words of the blessing,
“Birkat Kohanim,” one should count the words on the hand:
- the 2 phalanges of the thumb;
- 3 phalanges on each of the other 4 fingers;
- and the inner side of the palm.
This makes a total of 15 and is a segula for success in all one's endeavors throughout the year.
Gmar Chatimah Tovah!
