Rosh Chodesh Adar1. Et Ratzon (a time of Heavenly favor)The Chozeh mi-Lublin (may his merit protect us) taught that from the evening of Rosh Chodesh Adar, there are special days when prayers are answered instantly—this is a time of Et Ratzon. One should recite Tehillim 107 through 119 (inclusive). Then one should recite Tehillim 119 according to the letters of the person's name and the name of his or her mother, and then recite the letters of the word מזל(mazal). Afterwards, one should state one's personal requests in detail.Since Rosh Chodesh Adar lasts for two days, we recite them in the morning on both days.In order for our prayers to truly be accepted, we must connect ourselves to the Tzadik who revealed this powerful channel for prayer—namely, by giving tzedakah and lighting a candle le-khavodthe Tzadik Chozeh mi-Lublin—Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchak Horowitz (the Seer of Lublin)—alav ha-shalom.2. Special TimesThe Zohar HaKadosh says that there are dates in the Jewish calendar when prayers are accepted immediately. These are special times: the entire months of Adar, Nisan, Iyar and Sivan. However, during these four months, some days are more auspicious than others. The renowned holy kabbalist“Megaleh Amukot,” Rabbi Natan Neta Shapira, wrote: “The angel overseeing the month of Adar is named Avrahiel (it is not pronounced). He governs more than 25 angels, and all of them are benevolent toward the people of Israel.” The name of this angel is associated with immense blessings. We have the opportunity to receive them—all we need to do is prepare vessels for blessing.3. Every Day of Adar Is an Auspicious TimeThe mekubal Ba'al Ahavat Shalom of Kosov taught that every day of the month of Adar, the prayers of the Jewish people are more readily accepted. He says that “Adar ra'ava de-ra'avah” is an acronym for Adar—a phrase from the Zohar HaKadosh meaning that every day of Adar is an auspicious time, and that your prayers are readily accepted in Heaven. The holy Chozeh mi-Lublin said the same: within a 24-hour period, a person can merit having his or her prayer accepted immediately—with no pain or waiting period, simply at the moment he or she prays. This great opportunity is available only during the month of Adar.4. A Sefer Tehillim on Rosh ChodeshAnother great mekubal, Rabbi Chaim Vital, wrote in his books that on both days of Rosh Chodesh Adar, there is a great segula to recite Tehillim. The more Tehillim a Jew recites on these days, the better—and this is a great segula for success.During these auspicious 48 hours of the year, our prayers ascend directly to Hashem—without the mediation of angels.Since Hashem is a Father who wishes to give gifts to His children, we simply need to create vessels to receive them through our prayers. If during these 48 hours a person prays as much as possible and asks for everything he or she lacks, while praising and thanking G-d for everything received thus far, he or she will see salvation.5. TzedakahGaon Rabbi Yeshayahu Pinto (shlita), on the first day of Adar, following the tradition of the previous generations of mekubalim, sets aside 13 coins × 3 times—corresponding to the three donations that every Jew was required to make, and as protection from the 39 curses.6. Adar SheniRabbeinu Chida (Rabbi Chaim Yosef David Azulai) writes that Adar Sheni has no mazal; it is above mazal, since it is not included in the standard sequence of the months—12 months in an ordinary year. It occurs once every three years. (“Deваsh le-Fi,” in the name of Rabbeinu Ephraim [the Rishonim])There are 12 signs of the Zodiac corresponding to the 12 months. The second Adar is the 13th month, with no zodiac sign; it is “above destiny.”Therefore, on Rosh Chodesh Adar Sheni, “the Jews are above mazal”—a person can shape his or her own destiny with regard to material blessings: children, wealth, health, and so on.(Yura Plishtiev of the Kise Rachamim Yeshiva—translated by Zoya Chaya Tigai; based on a lesson by Rabbi Raphael Avitan)
