(Bamidbar 10:36) U-tekayem banu mikra shekatuv: “Adonai shomrecha, Adonai tzilcha al yad yeminecha. Adonai yishmor tzetcha u-vo'echa me-atah ve-ad olam.” (Tehillim 121:5–8) Translation May it be Your will, G-d, our G-d and the G-d of our fathers, to have compassion on Your people Israel who are confined in prison, where the bandits—the Hagrites, the cruel and savage descendants of Ishmael—have imprisoned them. Please, merciful Father, have mercy on them, hear their cries and save them. Close the mouths of their accusers, enemies, and haters, and stand at the right hand of Your imprisoned and captive people. Fulfill for them the verse: “For He stands at the right hand of the needy, to save him from those who judge his soul” (Tehillim 109:31). May they emerge healthy and whole from the bonds of their imprisonment. Fulfill for them the verse: “And I will be with your mouth, and I will teach you what you shall speak” (Shemot 4:12). “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against you in judgment you shall condemn” (Yeshayahu 54:17). For You are the One who releases the bound and frees prisoners, and in Your hand are the strength and might to release their bonds and the iron chains from upon them. Please, G-d, bring their souls out of confinement, and fulfill for them the verse: “Saying to the prisoners, ‘Go forth!’ and to those who are in darkness, ‘Reveal yourselves!’” (Yeshayahu 49:9). “A king sent and released him; the ruler of nations set him free” (Tehillim 105:20). Save them from wild beasts, snakes, fiery serpents, and scorpions; from hunger and thirst; from the deadly pestilence; from cold, rain, and hail; from snow, frost, ice, and scorching winds; from showers of dust and earth; from storm winds; from every illness and disease, fear and terror, injury and harm; from falling bombs, fire, and collapsing buildings; and from the hand of every enemy and ambusher along the way. Return them safely to their homes and bring them to their desired destination, to good and peaceful lives, whole in body and soul. Fulfill for them the verse: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you” (Yeshayahu 43:2). “Save me from the mud, lest I sink; let me be delivered from those who hate me and from the deep waters. Let not the floodwaters overwhelm me, nor the deep swallow me, nor the pit close its mouth over me” (Tehillim 69:15–16). Quickly frustrate the counsel and thwart the schemes of all who rise against them for evil. Let them be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of G-d driving them away (Tehillim 35:5). Let dread and fear fall upon them; through the greatness of Your arm, let them become still as stone (Shemot 15:16). Let them become still as stone through the greatness of Your arm; let dread and fear fall upon them. G-d shall arise, His enemies shall be scattered, and those who hate Him shall flee before Him. As smoke is driven away, so may You drive them away; as wax melts before fire, so may the wicked perish before G-d (Tehillim 68:2–3). But against all the children of Israel no dog shall sharpen its tongue, against man or beast, so that you may know how G-d distinguishes between Egypt and Israel (Shemot 11:7). [Kavanah concerning the Name]: יו"ד ה"א וא"ו ה"א Do this for the sake of Your holy Name, formed from the verse: “And it came to pass when the Ark set forward that Moses said: Arise, O G-d, and let Your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate You flee before You” (Bamidbar 10:35), when it is joined with its source, the Name Havayah, blessed be He, as follows: [Kavanah concerning the Name]: יְוַבִהָהָוַמֹקֻוֹיְוְאֹהִוְמְמִ And when it rested, he said: “Return, O G-d, to the myriads of thousands of Israel” (Bamidbar 10:36). Fulfill for us the verse: “G-d is your guardian; G-d is your shade at your right hand. By day the sun shall not strike you, nor the moon by night. G-d shall guard you from all evil; He shall guard your soul. G-d shall guard your going out and your coming in, from now and forever” (Tehillim 121:5–8). Amen; may it be so.
