Korban Todah and 40 Loaves
Tehillim 107:22 - “Veyizbehu zivchei todah, visaperu ma'asav berinah” - (Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and joyfully recount His deeds.) Korban Todah is a thanksgiving offering. It was brought to thank G-d for salvation and deliverance from danger in four situations:- after a sea voyage,
- after crossing the desert,
- upon being released from prison,
- after recovering from a serious illness.
- Recite Psalms 100 and 150 for 40 days. In our time, said Ha-Gaon Yanuka, one who experiences a miracle should recite these two psalms for 40 days and publicly share his story—as a modern Korban Todah.
- The Korban Todah (thanksgiving offering) brought in the Beit HaMikdash was accompanied by 40 loaves of bread, in order to publicize the miracle. When the person who had been saved shared the loaves, people would ask what the food was for, and he would tell them about the miracle, thereby sanctifying the Name of the Almighty. It is also appropriate to distribute 40 loaves of bread to students in kollelim or yeshivot.
