Sod Torah - Sefer Bereishit

Sod Torah - Sefer Bereishit

1. Bereishit 1:1

When heavenly assistance is needed and one has no strength left, the first sentence of the Torah is recited 24 times for a specific period (17 or 40 days). This sentence contains the entire potential and power of the Torah (in Judaism, the beginning contains the power of all that follows—for example, the status of the firstborn). This pasuk has exactly 28 letters—the gematria of the word כך (strength).

- “Bereishit bara Elohim et-hashamayim ve-et-haaretz” -

(In the beginning, the Almighty created the heavens and the earth.)

  2. Bereishit 2:10

A special segula for blessing throughout the week is to recite, at the conclusion of Shabbat, the pasuk about the four rivers flowing from Gan Eden. This segula is guaranteed to draw success to one who reads it with kavanah.

- “Ve-nahar yotze me-Eden lehashkot et-hagan u-misham yipared ve-hayah le-arbaah rashim. Shem ha-echad - Pishon, hu hasovev et kol-eretz Havilah asher-sham hazahav. U-zahav haaretz hahi tov; sham habedolach ve-even hashoham. Ve-shem hanahar hasheni Gichon, hu hasovev et kol-eretz Kush. Ve-shem hanahar hashelishi Chidekel, hu haholech kidmat Ashur; ve-hanahar harevi'i hu Perat. Va-yikach Ado-nai Elohim et-ha-adam va-yanichehu be-Gan Eden le-ovdah u-leshomrah.”

(A river issues from Eden to water the garden, and from there it divides and becomes four major rivers. The name of the first is Pishon; it flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. The gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are found there. The name of the second river is Gichon; it flows around the whole land of Kush. The name of the third river is Chidekel; it flows eastward toward Ashur, and the fourth river is the Perat.)   3. Bereishit 6:8

A segula for finding favor in the eyes of others and gaining people's goodwill. It is good to recite seven times before exams, negotiations, and business deals.

– “Ve-Noach matza chen be-einei Ado-nai” - (Noach found favor in the eyes of the L-rd.)

4. Bereishit 15:8

For receiving a favorable response from people and authorities. The Name במה in this pasuk helps one attain what one desires.

[Recite seven times]

Va-yomar Ado-nai Elohim bamah eda ki irashena” - (And he said: “L-rd G-d! How shall I know that I will inherit it?”

 5. Bereishit 18:13

A powerful segula from the Torah against ayin hara. In the phrase “shall I indeed bear,” the Divine Name האא is encoded, protecting against ayin hara, for Sarah uttered these words while Ishmael was before her, fearing the evil eye from him.

- “Va-yomer Ado-nai el-Avraham: lamah ze tzachakah Sarah lemor: ha-af umnam eled va-ani zakanti” -

(And G-d said to Abraham: Why did Sarah laugh, saying, “Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?”)

  6. Bereishit 24:3

A segula for kefitzat ha-derech (shortening the journey). This passage contains a coded Divine Name that the Mekubalim have used throughout the ages to shorten a journey.

- “Ve-ashbiakha ba-Ado-nai Elohei hashamayim ve-Elohei haaretz” -

  7. Bereishit 26:12

A segula for parnasah—it is good to read at the conclusion of Shabbat.

– “Va-yizra Yitzchak ba-aretz hahi va-yimtza bashanah hahi meah she'arim va-yevarekhehu Ado-nai” -

(And Isaac sowed in that land, and found in that year a hundredfold; and the L-rd blessed him.)

  8. Bereishit 30:26

A segula against enemies and every kind of evil. The first word of the pasuk is a Divine Name that protects against enemies.

It is good to recite seven times.

- “Tenah et-nashai ve-et yeladai asher avadti otkha bahen ve-elekhah ki Atah yad ata et-avodati asher avadtikha” -

(Give me my wives and my children, for whom I served you, and let me go. You know the service I rendered you.)

  9. Bereishit 32:11

A segula for deliverance from every kind of evil and negativity.

הַצִּילֵ֥נִי נָ֛א מִיַּ֥ד אָחִ֖י מִיַּ֣ד עֵשָׂ֑ו כִּֽי־יָרֵ֤א אָנֹכִי֙ אֹת֔וֹ פֶּן־יָב֣וֹא וְהִכַּ֔נִי אֵ֖ם עַל־בָּנִֽים׃ - “Hatzileini na miyad achi miyad Esav ki yare anokhi oto pen yavo ve-hikani em al banim” - (Save me, I pray, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esav, for I fear him, lest he come and strike me, mothers and children alike.)   10. Bereishit 37:7

A segula for elevating one's mazal (good fortune and improving one's destiny). In this sentence, the word kama קמה is a Divine Name that elevates a person's mazal.

- “Ve-hineh anachnu me'almim alumim betokh hasadeh ve-hineh kama alumati ve-gam nitzavah ve-hineh tesubena alumoteikhem va-tishtachavena la-alumati” -

(Here we were binding sheaves in the middle of the field, and behold, my sheaf rose.)

  11. Bereishit 39:2-3

A segula for success and good fortune throughout the week—it is good to recite before Melaveh Malkah

[Repeat seven times in forward and reverse order]

– “Va-yehi Ado-nai et Yosef va-yehi ish matzliach va-yehi be-veit adonav ha-Mitzri. Ha-Mitzri adonav be-veit va-yehi matzliach ish va-yehi Yosef et Ado-nai va-yehi” -

(And the L-rd was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master.)

[Repeat seven times]

- “Va-yomer aleihem Yisrael avihem: im ken eifo zot asu, kechu mizimrat haaretz bikhelekhem ve-horidu la-ish minchah, me'at tzori u-me'at devash, nekhot va-lot, botnim u-shekedim” -

(And Israel their father said to them: If it must be so, then do this: take some of the choice products of the land in your bags and bring them down as a gift for the man—some balm and some honey, spices and lotus, pistachios and almonds.)

  13. Bereishit 45:5

A segula for parnasah and sustenance.

Moreover, Rabbi Elimelech Biderman (shlita) teaches that the letters of the word “shelachani” שלחני form an acronym for the words: “shmonah,” “lehadlik,” “nerot,” “chanukah”—a hint to the miracle of Chanukah.

(For G-d sent me before you to preserve life.)

- “Va-yomer Yosef el-ha-am: hen kaniti etkhem hayom ve-et admatekhem le-Faro; he-lakhem zera u-zra'tem et-ha-adamah” -

(And Joseph said to the people: Behold, I have acquired you and your land today for Pharaoh. Here is seed for you; sow the land.)

  16. Bereishit 49:19

(The tribe of Gad: a troop shall press upon him, but he shall press upon their heel. Grant me success on my paths, as Joshua did when the people of Israel crossed the Jordan and fought the Canaanites, returning safely to his land.)

 17. Bereishit 49:20

A segula for parnasah, using the name of one of the Twelve Tribes—Asher.

(Asher's bread shall be rich, and he shall provide royal delicacies.)

18. Bereishit 49:22

The most famous segula from the Torah against ayin hara, invoking Joseph's name.

– “Ben Porat Yosef, ben porat alei ayin, banot tza'adah alei shur” -

(A fruitful son is Joseph, a fruitful son by the spring; daughters stride along the wall.)

Sefer Shemot

  1. Shemot 13:19

A segula against all forms of sorcery and evil—this pasuk contains the encoded Divine Name אעמ, which protects against all such negative actions.

(And Moses took Joseph's bones with him, for Joseph had solemnly adjured the children of Israel, saying: G-d will surely remember you, and you shall bring my bones up from here with you.)

2. Shemot 14:19-21

The three pesukim describing the splitting of Yam Suf are considered in Jewish tradition a segula for shidduchim and parnasah, since these two matters are granted with the same difficulty as the splitting of Yam Suf.

Each pasuk consists of 72 letters; 72 is the gematria of the word “Chesed,” yielding a triple Chesed.

Three times 72 equals 216, the gematria of the word “gevurah”; through triple Chesed, the most severe judgments can be overcome. The prophet Habakkuk, whose name has a gematria of 216, was brought back to life specifically through the power of these three pesukim.

(And the angel of G-d, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them.)

(And it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; there was cloud and darkness for the Egyptians, while it illuminated the night. Neither came near the other all night.)

- “Va-yet Moshe et-yado al-ha-yam va-yolekh Ado-nai et-ha-yam be-ruach kadim azah kol ha-laylah va-yasem et-ha-yam le-charavah va-yibak'u ha-mayim” -

(And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the L-rd drove the sea back with a strong east wind all night, turning the sea into dry land; and the waters split.)

Sefer Bamidbar

1. Bamidbar 6:22-26

A segula to recite Birkat Kohanim on Motzaei Shabbat for success throughout the week.

[Recite seven times]

– “Va-yedaber Ado-nai el Moshe lemor: Daber el Aharon ve-el banav lemor, ko tevarekhu et bnei Yisrael amor lahem: Yevarekhekha Ado-nai ve-yishmerekha. Ya'er Ado-nai panav elekha vi-chuneka. Yisa Ado-nai panav elekha ve-yasem lekha shalom.”

(And the L-rd spoke to Moses: Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying: Thus shall you bless the children of Israel: “May the L-rd bless you and protect you! May the L-rd shine His countenance upon you and be gracious to you! May the L-rd lift His countenance toward you and grant you peace.”

2. Bamidbar 12:13

(He does not behold iniquity in Jacob, nor see toil in Israel; the L-rd their G-d is with them, and the king's acclaim is among them. G-d who brought them out of Egypt is for them like the horns of a wild ox. There is no divination in Jacob and no sorcery in Israel; now it is said of Jacob and Israel, “What has G-d wrought?”)

4. Bamidbar 20:17

A segula of the Ari HaKadosh for protection while traveling—the protective Name

(You shall not have in your pouch alternate weights, larger and smaller. You shall not have in your house alternate measures, larger and smaller. You shall have a completely honest weight and a completely honest measure, so that your days may be long on the land that the L-rd your G-d is giving you.)
