Segulot of Rabbi Chaim Palaggi
1. For good fortune in the morning
Before leaving the house, or simply in the morning, place your hand on the mezuzah and say three times:
- “Ben Porat Yosef, ben porat alei ayin, banot tza'adah alei shur” - (Yosef is a fruitful vine, a fruitful vine by the spring). (Bereishit 39:29)
2. For a good memory and positive thoughts
If Rosh Chodesh lasts two days, recite the
72 times the pasuk:
- “Vayikra el-Moshe vayidaber Ad-nai elav me'ohel mo'ed lemor” - (And G-d called to Moshe and spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting, saying). (Vayikra 1:1)
3. Clothing
One should not throw clothing on the floor or scatter it around carelessly, as this gives impure forces permission to cling to the clothing (which contains holy energy from the mitzvot). There is a rule in Kabbalah: wherever there is chaos, it is an area inhabited by the “
sitra achra” (the Other Side). One should pick up the clothing and shake it out three times;
4. For pregnant women
It is good for a pregnant woman to give three coins to tzedakah every day throughout all nine months;
5. For teshuvah on behalf of a loved one
In the fifth blessing of the Amidah,
“Hashiveinu Avinu”, before the words “
Baruch Atah,” recite the following prayer:
- “Yehi ratzon milfanecha, Ad-nai Eloheinu ve-Elohei Avoteinu, shetahto she-lehachzir be-teshuvah shleimah.”
Whoever prays for 30 consecutive days for a specific person in this insertion of the Amidah is guaranteed to see results.
6. For “limtzo chen be'einei Elohim” (to find favor in the eyes of the Almighty), as well as in the eyes of other people, Rabbi Chaim Palaggi gave many segulot, considering this a very important matter:
- Putting on tefillin – in the blessing “lehania
ch tefilli
n,” the final letters
ח נ form the word “
chen,” meaning favor—to find favor in everyone's eyes: one's wife, friends, and those around them;
- On Shabbat, during the lifting of the Torah scroll look at the letters of the Torah and find a word that begins with the same letter as the person's name;
- Repeat the names of the mothers 17 times:
Avraham Avinu's mother –
Amtelai bat Karnevo,
King David's mother –
Nitzevet bat Ada'el. (The sefer “Mareh HaYeladim”)
7. For protection and good fortune have the 67th Psalm, written on
klaf (parchment), in the shape of a
Menorah, in one's home and recite it;
8. If a baby refuses breast milk.
Rabbi Chaim Palaggi cites at the end of the book “
Refuah ve-Chaim” the words of a famous physician-rabbi, who says that babies often refuse to nurse if, during pregnancy, their mother had a strong craving for a particular food but could not find it or eat it. In such a case, ask the mother what she very much wanted to eat but could not (for example, strawberries when they were out of season). Then bring that food to the baby's mouth, let the baby taste it, and the baby will begin to nurse.
9. A segula for depression, “bilbul hada'at ve-atzvut” (confusion of the mind and sadness) – recite the
Prayer of Habakkuk the Prophet.
The full prayer is here:

10. Rabbi Bentzion Mutzafi conveys a segula of Rabbi Chaim Palaggi from the sefer “Imtza Chaim”. If a person suddenly feels inspired and circumstances lead them to perform a mitzvah, give charity, or do something connected with gemilut chasadim, this is a “sha'at ratzon”—a time of favor. One should ask Heaven, and the request will be fulfilled, with Hashem's help.
