Segulot for the Home According to Rabbi Nachman's "Book of Qualities"
If no one lives in a home, one must take care not to enter it—for demons dwell in such a home;
Whoever takes revenge destroys his own home;
In a city with uphill and downhill roads, people age in half their allotted years;
When the threshold or entrance of a home falls apart, it is a bad sign;
For serving Hashem, it is better to live on the second floor than on the first;
Sometimes building a home causes a woman to become unable to bear children. When the beams in a home are not arranged according to the order assigned to them during the Six Days of Creation, the home is considered destroyed even though it has been built, and this destruction harms the woman, preventing her from giving birth;
When building a home, one must be careful not to use a fruit-bearing tree;
By the entrance to a person's home, one can determine whether the merits of his forefathers have been exhausted;
If a person is worthy, the beams of his home correspond to the aspect of “standing seraphim”, and the home will stand for a long time;
If not, the seraphim are consumed (the cause of many fires)—the reason is that the root of the word “seraphim” is פשר – burning;
A segula for someone moving into a new home is to bring in a sword, knife, or any other bladed weapon—this is hinted at in the verse: בחכמה יבנה בית - "A house is built with wisdom" - (bechochmah - with wisdom), כ׳לי ח׳מס מ׳כרותיהם - "the weapons of violence are their swords", and חרבותיהם מגרותיהם - "their swords are their dwellings."
