Rabbi Yosef Hayyim of Baghdad – the Ben Ish Hai composed a special prayer to be recited on Rosh Chodesh Kislev, revealing the month’s spiritual dimensions. V’yihyu kol yemei hachodesh hazeh – hu chodesh Kislev – beruchim, tovim u’metukanim. V’tivaserenu vahem besorot tovot, v’tashmi’enu vahem sason v’simchah, v’techonenu vahem chochmah, binah v’da’at me’Itcha, v’nihyeh meduvakim b’talmud Torah. V’tishlach brachah v’hatzlachah v’revachah b’chol ma’aseinu. Todi’eni orach chaim, sova semachot et panecha, ne’imot biminecha netzach. Yihyu leratzon imrei fi, v’hegyon libi lefanecha, Ad-nai tzuri v’go’ali.   Translation Our G-d and the G-d of our fathers, renew this month for us – the month of Kislev – for goodness and blessing, for gladness and joy, for a good life and peace. May all the days of this month, the month of Kislev, be blessed, good, and rectified. May we receive good tidings during it, and may we hear joy and gladness. May You grant us wisdom, understanding, and knowledge from You, and may we cleave to the study of Torah. Send blessing, success, and prosperity in all our endeavors. Open for us and for all Israel, our brothers, the gates of light, the gates of love and brotherhood, the gates of blessing, the gates of understanding, the gates of greatness, the gates of joy, the gates of knowledge, the gates of glory and splendor, the gates of prosperity and success, the gates of everlasting goodness, the gates of forbearance, the gates of merits, the gates of happiness, the gates of wisdom, the gates of compassion, the gates of a good life, the gates of favor and kindness, the gates of goodness, the gates of salvation, the gates of sustenance, the gates of studying Torah for its own sake, the gates of good nourishment, the gates of generosity, the gates of pleasantness, the gates of support, the gates of assistance, the gates of wealth, the gates of redemption, the gates of a good livelihood, the gates of tzedakah, the gates of jubilation, the gates of prosperity, the gates of dignity, the gates of an illuminated countenance, the gates of complete healing, the gates of divine favor, the gates of mercy, the gates of peace, the gates of tranquility, the gates of repentance, the gates of Torah, the gates of prayer, the gates of deliverance.
