How to Draw Down Rahamim According to “Shimush Tehillim”
“Shimush Tehillim” (a medieval manuscript by Hai ben Sherira Gaon dating to the 11th century) reveals which Psalms are best to recite for different problems in order to draw down Rahamim in very difficult situations.
One should rise for the pre-dawn prayer of Vatikin and recite the following chapters of Tehillim:
- 7 times - Psalm 39,
- then Psalm 32,
- then 7 times - Psalm 47, in order to draw Hashem’s mercy toward oneself.
In addition, every day:
- Psalm 119 (Yud) - for Rahamim - (to be read after Shacharit);
- Psalm 62 - for Rahamim and forgiveness of sins - (after Mincha and Maariv);
- Psalm 135 – for complete repentance - (after each of the Shacharit, Mincha, and Maariv prayers);
- Psalm 92 - to merit seeing a miracle;
- Psalm 27 - 13 times (the Thirteen Attributes of Mercy) Hashem’s name is repeated, symbolizing the attribute of Rahamim;
- Psalm 150 – gratitude to Hashem for everything (both good and bad) - in this Psalm, the word “Hallelujah” is recited 13 times (the Thirteen Attributes of Mercy).
