Segulot of Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv
Sandak
When Rav Elyashiv was asked to suggest powerful segulot, he taught that the greatest segulah is to study Torah and observe the mitzvot. Nevertheless, he would also offer segulot and advice, as did the other great mekubalim.
Once, when Rav Elyashiv was privileged to see his great-great-great-grandson and serve as sandak at his brit—a very rare occurrence—someone told him that there is a segulah that
“whoever serves as sandak at the brit of his great-great-great-grandson will not see Gehinom.” (Leket Yosher, Yoreh De'ah 52)
Rav Elyashiv replied:
“I worked my entire life to enter Gan Eden through the main entrance, not through the side door.” (Gedolah Shimushah, Rav Tzvi Weifish, p. 230)
Healing on Shavuot
In one of his shiurim, the Gaon Rav Yitzchak Zilberstein recounted that his father-in-law, Maran Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, would visit the sick, recalling that before Shavuot, HaShem healed all of Bnei Yisrael, including the blind, deaf, and mute. Everyone was healed and received the Torah in good health—and every year, on Shavuot, this power is renewed.
Therefore, Rav Elyashiv would tell the sick, there is a segulah: Shavuot is a time when one can call upon HaShem and pray for healing, even from illnesses that seem incurable.
When he was asked what the most appropriate time to pray for refuah on Yom Tov was, he replied: during the reading of
“Aseret HaDibrot”—the Ten Commandments.
