Translation:

(4) And Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to Esau, his brother, to the land of Seir, the field of Edom. (5) And he instructed them, saying: “Thus shall you say to my lord Esau: Thus said your servant Jacob: I have lived with Laban and remained there until now. (6) I have acquired oxen and donkeys, flocks, servants, and maidservants, and I have sent to inform my lord, in order to find favor in your eyes.” (7) And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying: “We came to your brother Esau, and he is also coming toward you, and with him are four hundred men.” (8) And Jacob became very afraid and distressed, and he divided the people who were with him, and the flocks, herds, and camels, into two camps. (9) And he said: “If Esau attacks one camp and strikes it, the remaining camp will escape.” (10) And Jacob said: “O G-d of my father Abraham and G-d of my father Isaac, O L-rd, Who said to me, ‘Return to your land and to your birthplace, and I will do good to you!’ (11) I am unworthy of all the kindnesses and all the goodness that You have bestowed upon Your servant, for with my staff I crossed this Jordan, and now I have become two camps. (12) Please save me from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau, for I fear him; perhaps he will come and strike me, mothers and children alike. (13) Yet You said: ‘I will surely do good to you and make your offspring like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted because of its multitude.’”

Translation:

(14) And he spent the night there that night. And he took from what he had a gift for his brother Esau: (15) two hundred she-goats and twenty he-goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams, (16) thirty nursing camels with their young, forty cows and ten bulls, twenty she-donkeys and ten foals. (17) And he placed each herd separately in the hands of his servants, and said to his servants: “Pass on ahead of me, and leave a space between one herd and the next.” (18) And he instructed the first, saying: “When Esau my brother meets you and asks you, saying, ‘Whose are you? Where are you going? And whose are these before you?’ (19) then you shall say: ‘Your servant Jacob’s; it is a gift sent to my lord Esau, and behold, he himself is behind us.’” (20) And he likewise instructed the second and the third, and all who followed the herds, saying: “With words such as these shall you speak to Esau when you meet him. (21) And you shall say: ‘Moreover, behold, your servant Jacob is behind us.’” For he said: “I will appease him with the gift that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face; perhaps he will show me favor.” (22) And the gift passed on ahead of him, while he spent that night in the camp. (23) And he arose that night, and took his two wives, his two maidservants, and his eleven children, and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. (24) And he took them and brought them across the stream, and brought across whatever he had. (25) And Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until the break of dawn. (26) And when he saw that he could not overcome him, he touched the socket of his thigh, and the socket of Jacob’s thigh was dislocated as he wrestled with him. (27) And he said: “Let me go, for dawn has risen.” But he said: “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” (28) And he said to him: “What is your name?” And he said: “Jacob.” (29) And he said: “No longer will your name be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have struggled with G-d and with men, and you have prevailed.” (30) And Jacob asked, saying: “Please tell me your name.” And he said: “Why do you ask my name?” And he blessed him there.

(31) And Jacob named that place Peni’el, for “I have seen an angel face to face, yet my life was spared.” (32) And the sun shone upon him as he passed Penu’el, and he was limping on his thigh. (33) Therefore the children of Israel do not eat the sciatic sinew, which is on the socket of the thigh, to this day, because he touched the socket of Jacob’s thigh, at the sciatic sinew.

Translation:

(6) And the maidservants approached, they and their children, and bowed. (7) Leah and her children also approached and bowed; afterward Joseph and Rachel approached and bowed. (8) And he said: “What is this entire camp that I encountered?” And he said: “To find favor in the eyes of my lord.” (9) And Esau said: “I have plenty, my brother; let what is yours remain yours.” (10) But Jacob said: “Please, no. If I have found favor in your eyes, then accept my gift from my hand, for seeing your face is like seeing the face of an angel, and you have been gracious to me. (11) Please accept my gift that has been brought to you, because G-d has been gracious to me and I have everything.” And he urged him, and he accepted it. (12) And he said: “Let us journey and go, and I will go alongside you.” (13) But he said to him: “My lord knows that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds are nursing; if they are driven for one day, all the animals will die. (14) Let my lord go ahead of his servant, while I will proceed slowly, at the pace of the work that is before me and at the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir.” (15) And Esau said: “Let me leave some of the people who are with me with you.” And he said: “Why should this be? Let me only find favor in the eyes of my lord.” (16) And Esau returned that day on his way to Seir. (17) And Jacob journeyed to Sukkot, built himself a house, and made shelters for his livestock; therefore he named the place Sukkot. (18) And Jacob arrived safely at the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan Aram, and he encamped before the city. (19) And he purchased the plot of field where he had pitched his tent from the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred kesitah.

Translation:

(1) A psalm. A song for the Sabbath day. (2) It is good to praise the L-rd and sing to Your Name, Most High, (3) to proclaim Your kindness in the morning and Your faithfulness at night, (4) with a ten-stringed instrument and harp, with resounding music on the lyre, (5) for You, L-rd, have gladdened me through Your deeds; I sing for joy over the works of Your hands. (6) How great are Your works, L-rd; Your thoughts are exceedingly profound. (7) The ignorant person does not know, and the fool does not understand this. (8) When the wicked flourish like grass and all evildoers blossom, it is in order that they may be destroyed forever. (9) But You, L-rd, are exalted forever. (10) For behold, Your enemies, L-rd—behold, Your enemies will perish; all evildoers will be scattered. (11) You have raised my horn like that of a wild ox; I am anointed with fresh oil. (12) My eye has seen my foes; my ears have heard of the wicked who rise against me. (13) The righteous will flourish like a date palm; like a cedar in Lebanon, he will grow tall. (14) Planted in the house of the L-rd, they will flourish in the courtyards of our G-d. (15) They will still bear fruit in old age; they will be full of sap and freshness, (16) proclaiming that the L-rd is upright, my Rock, and there is no injustice in Him.
