Chassidut on Tehillim – Rav Heschel of Krakow

Tehillim 106:16

- "Va-yekannu le-Moshe ba-machaneh"... - (And they envied Moses in the camp).

The Sages say that this verse teaches us that "every man was jealous of his wife because of Moses."

(Midrash Rabbah 18:20).

The Torah also says: "And if the woman was not defiled, but was clean, then she shall be free and shall conceive seed". (Numbers 5:28)

The Sages explained: "if until then she had given birth to daughters, she would give birth to a son."

It follows that all the women whose husbands were jealous of them because of Moses gave birth to sons. This was the claim of the daughters of Tzelofchad: "And if (our father) was not among Korach's followers"—our father was not among those who were jealous of Moses, and the proof of this is: "he had no sons"—for if he had been among those who were jealous, he would have had a son.

(Rav Heschel of Krakow)
