Tehillim on Bizyonot - Why It Is So Important to HaShem That We Remain Silent
The phenomenon in which a person is humiliated or insulted and thereby embarrassed, while he responds by remaining silent and not answering, willingly accepting the humiliation, is known in Judaism as Bizyonot (the silent acceptance of humiliation).
Tehillim explores this subject in depth.Tehillim 37:7
- “Dom la-Ado-nai veit'holel lo al titchar bematzliach darko, be'ish oseh mezimot” - (Be still before the L-rd and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of one whose way prospers, because of the man who carries out wicked schemes).
Rabbi Nachman (may his merit protect us), through Tehillim, explains how important it is to remain silent in the face of the schemes of those who hate us, when someone publicly humiliates another person, embarrasses him, or speaks lashon hara.
The blood located in the left side of the heart, where the evil inclination resides: “But the heart of a fool inclines to the left” (Kohelet 10:2) - is still in full force and power. For this reason, when a person hears of his disgrace, he experiences shame and bloodshed (the blood rushes to his face), corresponding to the concealment of the Name Ehyeh (whose gematria equals “dam” (blood).
This can be rectified only by transforming “dam” (blood) into “dom” (silence) - that is, a person hears of his disgrace,
but does not respond.
And when he fulfills:
"Be still before the L-rd", the Almighty strikes his enemies!
For through this, the amount of blood in the left side of the heart is reduced, corresponding to the weakening of the evil inclination.

Tehillim 50:20
- "Teshev be'achicha tedaber, beven imecha titen dofi" -
(You have done this, and I kept silent; you imagined that I would be like you).
When a person is publicly humiliated, he should remain silent, for by remaining silent a person acquires the quality represented by the Name "I will be" - Ehyeh. But when the Almighty remains silent, He does not seek
(G-d forbid) to acquire a lacking quality corresponding to the Name "I will be" - Ehyeh, for the Almighty has no need of this.
The purpose of the Almighty's silence is solely that sinners receive their punishment in the World to Come, for then all of a person's sins will be revealed before his eyes, and he will recognize them with certainty, as it is said:
"I will make you answer for them and lay them out before your eyes." (Tehillim 50:20)
(Likutey Moharan, lesson 6, R. Nachman of Breslov)
