Tehillim 75 – when a match is from Hashem
– «Ki Elokim shofet, zeh yashpil v’zeh yarim» – (For G-d is Judge—He humbles one and raises another.)
Rabbi Nachman of Breslov explains this pasuk as follows: “He humbles one” means that He impoverishes one person, while “He raises another” means that He enriches the other.
The Midrash says that when a man and a woman from different social backgrounds are destined to marry, G-d determines the best way to bring them together. He may sometimes impoverish one of them or enrich the other. At times, He may take part of one person’s wealth and give it to the other, making it easier for them to unite.
“He humbles one” – because that person gives away some of his wealth, while He “raises” the other by enriching the poor person.
