Victorious pesukim of David HaMelech against the Philistines
Victorious pesukim of David HaMelech against the Philistines
It is well known that “Ma'aseh avot—siman l'banim”—the deeds of the fathers are a sign for their children.
The name Gaza עזה has been known since the time of Shimshon HaGibor (the Book of Shoftim) and David HaMelech.
Gaza עזה has a gematria of 82.
82 is also the gematria of words such as לבן—“Lavan” (white) and נבל—“nevel” (harp), an allusion to the principal figure who fought the Philistines and defeated them—David HaMelech. David's strength lay in praising the L-rd, expressed through the sound of the harp.
Moreover, the word Gaza, עזה, has the same gematria as the name of the prayer “Ana BeKoach” - אנא בכח (also 82), which we recite every day during Shacharit after “Pitום HaKetoret.” (Marina Fain)
The word “Palestinians” (although today's Palestinians have no connection whatsoever to those people) in the Torah—פלשתים—has a gematria of 860, which is also the gematria of the word מתכת—“matechet” (metal), their principal weapon.
860 plus 1 (kollel) is the gematria of Rosh Hashanah—ראש השנה—our autumn holidays begin with Rosh Hashanah and conclude with Simchat Torah, the day on which we suffered a great tragedy this time.
860 is also the sum of all the integers from 1 to 41. 41 is the gematria of the word “mother”—
11 Cheshvan is the yahrzeit of Rachel Imeinu—and it is the 41st day from Rosh Hashanah. Rachel Imeinu is the collective mother and protector of the Jewish people.
The word חמס “Hamas” (banditry) has a gematria of 108, which is equal to the gematria of the words חצי—“chetzi” (half) and חנן—“chanan” (had mercy)—draw your own conclusions...

(And David said: “The L-rd, who saved me from the lion and from the bear, He will save me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Shaul said to David: “Go, and may the L-rd be with you.”)

(David said to the Philistine: “You come against me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, while I come against you in the Name of the L-rd of Hosts, the G-d of the armies of Israel, whom you have blasphemed. This day the L-rd will deliver you into my hand; I will strike you down, remove your head, and give the carcasses of the Philistine camp this day to the birds of the heavens and the beasts of the earth. Then all the earth will know that there is a G-d in Israel. And this entire assembly will know that the L-rd saves not with sword and spear, for the battle belongs to the L-rd, and He will deliver you into our hands.”)
- “Va-tosef ha-milchamah lihyot, va-yetze David va-yilachem ba-Plishtim va-yach ba-hem makah gedolah, va-yanusu mi-panav.”
(Once again there was war, and David went out and fought the Philistines, striking them with a great blow, and they fled from him.)
- “Va-yishal David ba-Adonai lemor: Ha-elech ve-hiketi ba-Plishtim ha-eleh? Va-yomer Adonai el David: Lech ve-hikita ba-Plishtim ve-hoshata et Keilah.”
(And David inquired of the L-rd, saying: “Shall I go and strike these Philistines?” And the L-rd said to David: “Go, strike the Philistines, and save Keilah.”)

(And David again inquired of the L-rd, and the L-rd answered him, saying: “Arise, go down to Keilah, for I am delivering the Philistines into your hand.” And David and his men went to Keilah, fought the Philistines, drove away their livestock, and dealt them a great blow; and David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.)
- “Va-yishal David ba-Adonai lemor: Ha-eleh el Plishtim? Ha-titenem be-yadi?
(And David inquired of the L-rd, saying: “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” And the L-rd said to David: “Go up, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hand.”)
2 Samuel 5:22–25

- “Va-yosifu od Plishtim la'alot va-yinatshe'u be-Emek Refa'im. Va-ya'as David ken, ka-asher tzivahu Adonai, va-yach et Plishtim mi-Geva ad bo'acha Gazer.”
(And the Philistines again went up and deployed in the Valley of Rephaim. David inquired of the L-rd, and He said: “Do not go up; circle around behind them and approach them opposite the balsam trees. And when you hear the sound of marching in the treetops, then attack, for at that moment the L-rd will have gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” David did as the L-rd had commanded him, and he struck the Philistines from Geba to the entrance of Gezer.)
