Hoshaya Ish Tirya

Amora

Rabbi Hoshaya Ish Tirya was an Amora of the fourth generation in Eretz Yisrael.

Burial place - Israel, Peki'in;

He was born on the very day that Rabbi Avin passed away, and was considered his spiritual successor.

For his livelihood, Rabbi Hoshaya Ish Tirya worked as a launderer. He wore only clothing made from a certain type of wool, so that people could not accuse him of stealing threads from their garments.

When Rabbi Hoshaya Ish Tirya passed away, his coffin was seen floating in the air. Rabbi Hoshaya Ish Tirya is buried in the city of Peki'in, near the cave of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai. Near the tzadik's resting place, a yeshiva for teenage boys was established. During construction, in order to expand the courtyard surrounding the grave, an entrance to the cave was uncovered.

A mitzvah – to be a Jew

A wealthy non-Jewish woman, when giving her belongings to Rav Hoshaya for laundering, forgot her jewelry among her things.

Rav Hoshaya found the jewelry and asked people to let whoever had carelessly left it know that he had found it – so that they could come and retrieve it. Word reached the woman, and she was utterly astonished – after all, had this Jew kept the jewelry for himself, he could have lived comfortably for many years without having to serve others. Rabbi Hoshaya fulfilled the Torah mitzvah of returning a lost object, and the wealthy woman appreciated this act – it was a Kiddush Hashem (sanctification of the Name of the Almighty) – and she decided to give him the jewelry as a token of gratitude and admiration for his Jewish conduct.

Gaon Rav Yaniv Assuri - Rosh Yeshiva of "Yodei Bina" says that today this is one of the most powerful places for prayer, since the grave of Rabbi Hoshaya Ish Tirya is not so well-known among the people, and according to the Arizal, it is precisely such places that possess greater power.

This place is extremely powerful for prayers for parnassa (livelihood). It is good to hold a Seudah Le-Kovod the tzadik at his resting place, and prayers will be answered.
