Rabbi Yaakov Aryeh ben Shlomo Guterman – the Admor of Radzymin (1792 – 1874)
Yahrzeit – 18 Tammuz
Resting place – Cmentarz żydowski, Warsaw, Poland
The Admor was born to Rav Shlomo and his wife Bina Guterman – he was the founder of the Radzymin dynasty of Hasidim. He was known as the “Sabba Kadisha of Radzymin.”
Rabbi Yaakov Aryeh Guterman was a disciple of the Chozeh (Seer) of Lublin, the Maggid of Kozhnitz, the Yid HaKadosh, Rabbi Simcha Bunim of Peshischa, and Rabbi Yitzchok of Vorka.
In 1848, after the passing of Rabbi Yitzchok of Vorka, Rav Guterman became the founder of the Radzymin Hasidic dynasty. He was revered as a Baal Mofet (miracle worker) and was known for writing amulets that saved and protected their owners. Among his grandchildren, who were named in his honor, were Rabbi Yaakov Aryeh Alter – the Rebbe of Ger, and Rabbi Yaakov Aryeh Yeshaya of Amshinov. His works include “Bikurei Aviv” – a commentary on the Torah, “Divrei Aviv” – a commentary on Bereishit Rabbah, and “Likutei Aviv.”
