Rabbi Ezra of Gerona - Teacher of the Ramban

Rabbi Ezra ben Shlomo (1227) was one of the Baalei Tosafot and taught Ramban Kabbalah.

It was Ramban who first began interpreting the Torah through Kabbalah, which made him a very popular commentator in the Jewish world.

Rabbi Ezra studied Kabbalah together with Rabbi Azriel of Gerona (according to one version, they were brothers).

Rabbeinu Chida writes in his book "Shem HaGedolim" that Rabbi Ezra ben Shlomo is Rabbi Ezra the Prophet of Moncontour, who is mentioned in the Tosafot.

Rabbi Ezra and Rabbi Azriel studied Kabbalah under "Isaac the Blind" - Rabbi Yitzchak Saggi Nehor - a Provençal rabbi and kabbalist.

He was the son of the Raavad II and studied Kabbalah at a time when the book "Sefer HaBahir" was very popular - its authorship was even attributed to him. Rabbeinu Bachya calls him "the father of Kabbalah."
