Rabbi Levi Saadia Nachmani

Rabbi Levi Saadia Nachmani (1921-1995) Yahrzeit – 7 Shevat Resting place - Har HaMenuchot Rabbi Levi Saadia ben Yaakov Nachmani was born on the 11th of Adar in Marrakesh (Morocco). His father was the Kabbalist Rabbi Yaakov Nachmani – the "Baal Meat Dvash" - author of the kabbalistic work "Meat Dvash." His teacher was Rabbi Avraham Abitbol – son of the famous Moroccan Kabbalist, author of the beloved Shabbat piyyut "Yafa Ve-Tama." From childhood he displayed his intellect and talents; in 2007 he was appointed librarian at the court of Marrakesh among a group of kabbalists: Rabbi Ephraim Enkaoua, Rabbi Mordechai Kurkos and Rabbi Moshe Zarihan. In 2009 he worked with the "Otzar HaTorah" network, heading a yeshiva for graduates of "Otzar HaTorah." At the request of Rabbi Shalom Mashash, he gave lessons in Talmud and halachic rulings at the rabbinical Beit Midrash "Magen David." One day, while giving a lesson at the "Magen David" Yeshiva, he suddenly turned to his students and announced his decision to move to the Land of Israel together with his family: "In 5 years there will be a fateful and difficult war in the Holy city of Jerusalem [the Six-Day War], mainly over the Old City and the Western Wall. Several Arab countries will take part in it against the Jewish settlements in the Holy Land; they will seize what remains of our Temple, and for a reason hidden from me, I must go to Jerusalem before that day comes." After arriving by ship at the port of Haifa, he was offered rabbinic positions in the cities of Ashdod, Tiberias and Petach Tikva. After Rabbi Ovadia Yosef vacated the position of Rabbi in Petach Tikva, he decided to take up the post in his place, but upon learning that his friend Rabbi Moshe Malka was also on the list of candidates, he withdrew so as not to offend his friend, and completely gave up the idea of becoming a rabbi. Together with Rabbi Reuven Elbaz, he devoted himself to bringing Jews back to faith. Rabbi Levi Saadia helped many among the academics of the Technion and universities, where he gained many students.
