Rabbi Aryeh Leib Yellin of Bialystok - "Yefeh Einayim"
Rabbi Aryeh Leib Yellin of Bialystok - author of "Yefeh Einayim" (1820 - 1886)
Yahrzeit - 7 Nissan
Burial place - Bielsk, płocki, Masovian Voivodeship, Poland
He was born in Yasinovka. He was one of the most prominent Polish rabbis, to whom halachic questions were often brought for resolution. He was the author of "Kol Aryeh" and "Mitzpeh Aryeh," sefarim on various Talmudic tractates.
His most important work is "Yefeh Einayim" (beautiful eyes), in which he presents parallel passages from the Babylonian Talmud, the Jerusalem Talmud, the Midrashim, the Pesikta, and other ancient rabbinic works, at times with critical notes, of the greatest value to the rabbinical student.
Rav Yellin also published a short book "Mukdam u'Meuchar" (What Comes First), in which he examines the order of certain fundamental ideas, such as the source of the Aleph Bet and its sequence; when blessings are mentioned before curses and when curses are mentioned first; when the fathers are mentioned first and when the mothers, and much more.
"I found ten thousand topics in the Tanach, Talmud, and Midrash in which the question of the order of the appearance of words is raised. I worked diligently to study this question and found that there are always great secrets in the reasons for changing the order."
May the merit of the tzadik protect Am Yisrael!
