He was born to Rabbi Binyamin Tzion and Chachala in Iraq. In his youth he studied at Beit Zilkha, and at age 14 he began studying Kabbalah with the great Rabbi Yehuda Fetaya, and at the age of 17 he already received semicha from Rabbi Abdullah Someach.
In 1972 he immigrated to Israel and studied at the Porat Yosef Yeshiva, where he learned for about thirty years alongside Rabbi Yehuda Tzadka.
For eight years he lived in London and worked as a tutor for members of the Sassoon family.
Toward the end of his life he gave classes in Kabbalah at the kabbalists' yeshiva "Emet VeShalom."
Segulot for Children from Rav Sasson Mizrahi
Once a couple came to Rabbi Sasson who had had no children for nineteen years, and the Rav said that they should change the husband's name, and upon doing so, they would be blessed with a male child - and so it was; they changed the name, and within a year they were blessed with a male child. Another time there was a sick girl whom the doctors had given up on treating, and Rav Sasson said that they should change her name. They changed her name, and miraculously the girl began to show signs of improvement, until she was fully healed in the hospital.
Miscarriage
Once an avrech came to Rav Sasson's home and told him that his wife had conceived several times, but each time she had a miscarriage. Rav Sasson said: "When you conceive, recite Tehillim 91 - 'Yoshev BeSeter' three times every day. By doing this, you will give birth, and the child will live." And so it was.
To another couple in the same situation, he advised also adding Tehillim 90, recited three times.
Against Night Terrors
When Avraham asked him about children who wake up frightened in the middle of the night, Rav Sasson advised that the father or mother place their hands on the child's head and recite Tehillim 91, "Yoshev BeSeter." They did as the Rav said and saw wonders!
Against Troubles
Once a Jew came to the Rav's home saying that trouble was approaching him, and Rav Sasson told him:
"Recite these words from the Prophet Micah three times every day:
- "Mi El kamocha, nosei avon ve'over al pesha, lish'erit nachalato.
Yashuv yerachameinu, yichbosh avonoteinu, vetashlich bimtzulot yam kol chatotam.
Translation:
"Who is a G-d like unto You, who pardons iniquity and forgives transgression for the remnant of His heritage; He does not maintain His anger forever, for He desires kindness. He will again have compassion upon us; He will subdue our iniquities; and You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea!
And all the sins of Your people, the House of Israel, cast into a place where they will not be remembered, nor be recalled, nor ever come to mind.
Grant truth to Yaakov, kindness to Avraham, as You swore to our fathers from the days of old"!
[Before saying: "And You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea" - picture yourself being freed of all your sins].
Rav Sasson always added that all segulot should be done only after repentance and good deeds.
May the merit of the tzadik protect Am Yisrael!
