Chacham Moshe Idan, son of Chacham Chalifa Idan, was born on the island of Djerba in 1842.

In his youth he earned his living as a weaver, setting his book on the weaving loom while studying Torah at the same time.
Chacham Moshe Idan married Azalla Haddad.
Chacham Moshe Idan studied Kabbalah under the kabbalist Chacham Sasson Parsaido, author of the book "Shemen Shushan."
Chacham Moshe Idan was appointed rabbi and dayan in the city of Gabes, Tunisia, where he wrote his books on the hidden aspects of the Torah. Chacham Moshe Idan was also well versed in grammar and poetry.
The sons of Chacham Moshe Idan held prominent positions in the Jewish community of Tunisia, and in particular on Djerba.
Chacham Nissim Idan was active throughout Tunisia and served as rabbi and dayan in the city of Kairouan.
Chacham David Idan founded "Idan-Tzabban Press," the first Jewish publishing house on the island of Djerba. The publishing firm was a technological innovation for the rabbis and Jewish scholars of the island. Books, mostly on religious subjects, had previously been printed by outside publishers.
Chacham Machluf Idan served as rabbi and Torah teacher in the Small Quarter of the island.
Chacham Moshe Idan passed away on 5 Elul 5654 (1894).
He is the author of several books:
"Chag HaPesach" — on the Passover Haggadah, "Yad Moshe" — on the Book of Proverbs, "Zechut Moshe" — on the Torah, "Tiferet Moshe" — sermons and original commentaries on both plain and mystical interpretations, "Magen Avot" — 18 chapters on Kabbalah.
