Rabbi Amram Chasida
Yahrzeit - 16 Cheshvan
Burial Place - Tzfat, Israel
Rabbi Amram Chasida was originally a rabbi in Hungary who moved to Eretz Yisroel in 1826 and settled in Tzfat. Three years after his arrival he passed away (1830) at the age of forty on 16 Cheshvan and was buried in the ancient cemetery of Tzfat.
Rabbi Amram Chasida was born in 1790 and was appointed chief rabbi of Ureshi (Hungary) at the age of 24. Six years later he was appointed rabbi of Mad. He was known for his piety and righteousness, for which he received the title "Chasida." Just before his passing, Rabbi Amram Chasida uttered a complete blessing that included the Name of the Most High: "Blessed is He Who enlightens His servants with the light hidden since the six days of creation."
Rabbi Amram Chasida was a friend of Rabbi Moshe Sofer, the Chatam Sofer, and it is known that the Chatam Sofer took the passing of Amram Chasida very hard. They corresponded with one another, and sometimes disagreed on rulings of Torah law.
Rebbe Amram Chasida is buried right below the grave of the Alshich HaKadosh - on the side of the cave of Rabbi Yaakov Beirav and the elders of Tzfat.
May the merit of the tzadik protect our people!
