Yahrzeit - 12 Adar Resting place - Lviv, Ukraine The holy tzadik Rabbi Shlomo of Sassov was raised and educated by his grandfather — the great mentor of the generation, Maran the Maharsham of Belz, may his memory be a blessing. From him he absorbed the ways of serving Ha-Shem, the depth of prayer, and love for every Jew. He taught: if a person prayed for a sick person and did not receive an answer, let him pray for another sick person and include the first one in that prayer as well. It is known from Kabbalah that the "et ratzon" — the time of favor — awakens differently for each soul. Sometimes the vessel of the first soul is not yet ready to receive abundance, while the root of another soul has already awakened for rectification. When a person broadens his prayer and unites several souls in a single petition, he opens a new channel of mercy, and through it abundance and healing spread also to the first sick person. According to the drash, the power of prayer is measured not only by words, but by the degree to which others are included. When a person goes beyond his own pain and prays for another, his prayer becomes the prayer of many, and the prayer of many never returns empty. Therefore, remember that in serving Ha-Shem (in a time of need and suffering) a person should not withdraw into himself, but rather broaden his heart and include others. Through love for Israel, through the union of souls in prayer, the gates of Heaven are opened, and salvation comes also to the one who prayed.
