Yahrzeit/Hillula of Mar bar Rav Ashi
Mar bar Rav Ashi (מר בר רב אשי) was a rabbi of Babylonia, who lived in the 5th century (the seventh generation of Amoraim).
Yahrzeit - 11 TishreiHe is known by the name Tavyomi - טביומי (in Aramaic, "tav" means good, and "yomi" means days - meaning "good days").
Mar bar Rav Ashi translates as "the Master, son of Rav Ashi," since he was the son of Rav Ashi.
He earned a reputation as a scholar already during the lifetime of Rav Ashi.
He was chosen to head the Academy in Sura 28 years after his father's death, having been elected under extraordinary circumstances described in the Talmud. He held this position until his death on 11 Tishrei, after Yom Kippur, in the year 468.
He continued his father's work of revising the Babylonian Talmud; according to Abraham ibn Daud, he was one of its last editors.
A story was told about him of how he subdued a demon.
His authority in halacha was great - the "Seder Tannaim ve-Amoraim" states that rulings were often issued in accordance with his opinion.
May the merit of the Tzadik protect Am Yisrael!
