Yosef HaTzadik

Yosef was the 11th of the 12 sons of Yaakov Avinu, and he became the chariot (merkavah) for the sefirah of Yesod.
Some people celebrate his Hillula on 27 Tammuz (the day of his birth).
Yaakov took the birthright away from Reuven and gave it to Yosef. It was fitting that the birthright should come from Rachel. (Bava Batra 86:6, 123a)
The Ruach HaKodesh (Divine inspiration) rested upon Yosef from his youth until the day of his death, guiding him in all matters of wisdom. (Pirkei D'Rabbi Eliezer 39)
When Yosef went out to rule over Egypt, the daughters of kings would peer out from behind the lattices and throw jewelry and rings at him so that he would look at them, but he did not look. (Bereishit Rabbah 98:18) Every day he saw the daughters of kings—sometimes adorned, sometimes perfumed, sometimes undressed—but he did not yield to temptation. (Yalkut Shimoni, Vayeshev 145)
After his brothers sold him, he ended up in Egypt. He worked in the house of Potiphar. Potiphar's wife tried every day to seduce him, but again and again he refused to give in to her.
The Zohar (Zohar I, p. 194b) states: "Rabbi Shimon says that before Yosef underwent this trial, [he] was not called a tzadik. Because he did not violate the covenant of the foundation (Yesod), he was called a Tzadik." Thus, Yosef's encounter with Potiphar's wife became the turning point in Yosef's life.
A tzadik is the foundation of the world (Yesod Olam). Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto (Sefer HaKlalim) explains that the quality of Yesod, foundation, is that it channels abundance from the other qualities (sefirot). Ha-Shem is filled with kindness (Chesed) and wisdom (Binah). This abundance is directed through the foundation (Yesod) to its final destination, our physical, worldly level.
Foundations have another quality: they are firmly secured. Since they transmit energy between two forces, they are connected to both. The tzadik is connected both to the spiritual world and to the material world, acting as a channel through which spiritual abundance can be received in the material world. Thus, righteousness (Tzadik) has deep roots, and it is not easily blown away. Yosef was a tzadik because Yosef channeled the generosity of Ha-Shem. If not for Yosef's appointment as viceroy, Egypt would have wasted the seven years of abundance.
The Soul of Yosef
When Yosef came out of prison, he received the reincarnated soul of Chanoch ben Yered (who became the angel Metatron), a lofty soul of the level of Neshama, "Atzilut Zichara Ila'ah." This level of soul had been included within Adam, but was not tainted by his sin. This lofty level of soul gave Yosef the beauty of Adam. That same night, the angel Gavriel appeared to Yosef and taught him 70 languages (Sha'ar HaGilgulim, Hakdamah 31).
Yosef's soul returned as one of the "Asarah Harugei Malchut" (Ten Martyrs) (an event that took place after the destruction of the Second Temple). Rabbi Yishmael Kohen Gadol was a reincarnation of Yosef, according to the Arizal.
Yosef himself caused his brothers to sell him, and everything that resulted from it was a consequence of this. (Sha'ar HaGilgulim, Hakdamah 31). Between revealing his dreams of ruling and speaking lashon hara about his brothers, Yosef brought all his misfortunes upon himself.
"The city of Shechem is the secret of Yosef, who corresponds to the sefirah of Yesod. This is why Shechem was given to Yosef [and his descendants], for his attribute is Yesod."
(Chesed Avraham, Ma'ayan 3, Nahar 13, Rabbi Avraham Azulai). Yosef was buried in the city of Shechem.
Osnat descended from the union of Shechem ben Chamor and Dinah bat Yaakov; she married Yosef HaTzadik, and from their union Ephraim was born. From this union Mashiach ben Yosef descended.
