Birkot HaShachar - Morning Brachot
Birkot HaShachar - Morning Brachot
Immediately upon waking, we give thanks to G-d by saying «Modeh Ani»:
Modeh (women: Modah) ani lefanecha Melech chai v'kayam, shehechezarta bi nishmati b'chemla, raba emunatecha.
I give thanks before You, living and eternal King, for You have mercifully restored my soul to me. Great is Your faithfulness.
Next, wash your hands with water from a vessel (alternately, 3 times on the right hand, then 3 times on the left), and then recite the blessing:
Baruch Ata Adonai Eloheinu Melech ha-olam, asher kidshanu be-mitzvotav ve-tzivanu al netilat yadayim.
Blessed are You, our G-d, King of the universe, Who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us concerning the washing of the hands.
After using the restroom, one recites «Asher Yatzar»:
Baruch Ata Adonai Eloheinu Melech ha-olam, asher yatzar et ha-adam be-chochma, u-vara vo nekavim nekavim chalulim chalulim, galui ve-yadua lifnei kisei chevodecha, she-im yisatem echad meihem o im yipateach echad meihem, i efshar l'hiskayem afilu sha'ah echat. Baruch Ata Adonai rofei chol basar u-mafli la'asot.
Blessed are You, our G-d, King of the universe, Who formed man with wisdom and created within him many openings and cavities. It is revealed and known before Your throne of glory that if but one of them were to be blocked, or if one of them were to be ruptured, it would be impossible to survive even one hour. Blessed are You, our G-d, Who heals all flesh and performs wonders.
Immediately after «Asher Yatzar», the blessing for the soul is recited:
Elohai, neshama she-natata bi tehora. Ata vratah, Ata yetzartah, Ata nefachtah bi, ve-Ata meshamra be-kirbi, ve-Ata atid litla mimeni, u-l'hachazira bi le-atid lavo. Kol zman she-haneshama be-kirbi modeh (women: modah) ani lefanecha, Adonai Elohai ve-Elohei avotai, Ribon kol ha-ma'asim, Adon kol ha-neshamot. Baruch Ata Adonai, ha-machazir neshamot li-fgarim meitim.
My G-d, the soul You gave me is pure. You created it, You formed it, You breathed it into me, and You preserve it within me, and in time to come You will take it from me and restore it to me in the World to Come. All the while the soul remains within me, I give thanks before You, L-rd my G-d and G-d of my forefathers, Master of all works, L-rd of all souls. Blessed are You, L-rd, Who restores souls to lifeless bodies.

Baruch Ata Ad-nai Eloheinu Melech haOlam, malbish arumim.
Blessed are You, L-rd, our G-d, King of the universe, Who clothes the naked.
Baruch Ata Ad-nai Eloheinu Melech haOlam, hanoten la-ya'ef koach.

Baruch Ata Ad-nai Eloheinu Melech haOlam, oter Yisrael be-tifara.

Women say:

Blessed are You, L-rd, our G-d, King of the universe, that You did not make me a gentile.
Baruch Ata Ad-nai Eloheinu Melech haOlam, shelo asani shifcha.
Blessed are You, L-rd, our G-d, King of the universe, that You did not make me a maidservant.

Vihi ratzon milfanecha Adonai Elohai velohei avotai, she-targileini be-Toratecha, ve-tadbikeini be-mitzvotecha, ve-al tevi'eini lidei chet, ve-lo lidei avera, ve-lo lidei nisayon, ve-lo lidei vizayon, ve-tarchikeini mi-yetzer hara, ve-tadbikeini be-yetzer ha-tov, ve-chof et-yitzri lehishtabed-lach, u-tneni ha-yom u-vechol yom – le-chen u-l'chesed, u-l'rachamim, be-einecha u-ve-einei chol-ro'ai, ve-gomleni chasadim tovim. Baruch Ata Adonai, gomel chasadim tovim le-amo Yisrael.
Blessed are You, L-rd, our G-d, King of the universe, Who removes sleep from my eyes and slumber from my eyelids.
And may it be Your will, L-rd, our G-d and G-d of our forefathers, to accustom us to Your Torah and to make us cling to Your commandments. Bring us not into sin, nor into transgression, nor into iniquity, nor into temptation, nor into disgrace. Let not the evil inclination rule over us. Keep us far from a bad person and from a bad companion. Draw us near to the good inclination and to good deeds. Subdue our inclination so that it submits to You. Grant us this day and every day to find favor, kindness, and mercy in Your eyes and in the eyes of all who see us, and bestow upon us abundant loving-kindness. Blessed are You, L-rd, Who bestows good kindnesses upon His people, Israel!
Yehi ratzon milfanecha Adonai Elohai velohei avotai, she-tatzileini ha-yom u-vechol yom va-yom – me-azei fanim u-me-azut panim, me-adam ra, mi-yetzer ra, mi-chaver ra, mi-shachen ra, mi-pega ra, me-ayin hara, u-mi-lashon hara, mi-din kashe u-mi-ba'al din kashe, bein shehu ven brit u-vein she-eino ven brit.
May it be Your will, L-rd, my G-d and G-d of my forefathers, to protect me today and always from insolent people and from insolence, from a bad person, from a bad companion, from an evil neighbor, from misfortune, from the evil eye, from slander, from a harsh judgment and from a harsh opponent, whether Jew or gentile.

100 Brachot a Day
In the days of King David, 100 young soldiers died every day from a terrible plague. Realizing that the plague had a spiritual cause, King David and the Sages instituted, measure for measure, the practice of reciting 100 brachot every day. After this, the plague ceased. (1 Menachot 43b)
It is said in Devarim (10:12):
«And now, Israel, what does Hashem your G-d ask of you? Only to fear Hashem your G-d.»
The Sages teach – do not read «mah» (מה, but read מאה – «meah, one hundred»).
This hints that in order to attain the level of «Yirat Shamayim» (fear of Heaven), one must recite 100 blessings a day.
Mother and the 100 Brachot
The word «faithful» in Hebrew – נאמנ – is made up of the word אמ («mother») and 2 letters «nun» = 100, showing that it is specifically the mother who instills in her children a love for reciting the 100 brachot.
In Shemot (38:27) it is written:
«מאת אדנים למאת הככר ככר לאד» - (100 sockets, [made] from 100 kikars [of silver], a kikar for each socket).
The Ba'al HaTurim explains: «Based on this, it was instituted to recite 100 brachot a day.»
But what is the connection between the sockets of the Mishkan and the brachot?
«The word אדנים ('adanim') hints at the word אדון – 'Master.'
In every blessing we recite, we proclaim G-d as Master of the Universe. And just as the 100 sockets are the foundation of the Mishkan, so too are the 100 daily brachot the foundation of the Jewish home (a miniature Temple) that each of us builds.»
(based on the commentary of the Chidushei HaRim)
