Since the beginning of the war, many groups have been reciting Tehillim for the hostages, IDF soldiers, and all of Am Yisrael.
Many chiddushei Torah have emerged during these days, with G-d's help: where the word Hamas is concealed, the gematriot of Hamas, Gaza, Plishtim, and more.
But Tehillim 140 stands apart.
In Tehillim 140, the word “chamas”, meaning violence and robbery, is mentioned three times.
The words associated with war—“milchamah” and “neshek”—are mentioned twice.
It is as though David HaMelech is writing about the present day.
Reciting Tehillim with kavanot is much more powerful—pray until complete victory.
Tehillim 140
Lamnatzeach mizmor le-David.
Chaltzeni Adonai me'adam ra, me'ish chamasim tintsreni.
Asher chashvu ra'ot belev kol yom, yaguru milchamot.
Shanenu leshonam kemo nachash, chamat akhshuv tachat sifteimo selah.
Shomreni Adonai miyad resha, me'ish chamasim tintsreni, asher chashvu lidchot pe'amai.
Tamnu ge'im pach li vachavalim, parsu reshet leyad ma'gal, mokshim shatu li selah.
Amarti la-Adonai Eli Atah, ha'azin Adonai kol tachanunai.
Elohim Adonai oz yeshuati, sakota leroshi beyom neshek.
Al titen Adonai ma'avayei rasha, zemamo al tafek, yarumu selah.
Rosh mesibai, amal sefateimo yechasemo.
Yimotu aleihem gechalim, ba'esh yapilem, bema'amakot bal yakumu.
Ish lashon bal yikon ba'aretz, ish chamas ra yetsudenu lemahdephot.
Yadati ki ya'aseh Adonai din ani, mishpat evyonim.
Ach tzadikim yodu lishmecha, yeshvu yesharim et panecha.
Translation
For the leader. A psalm of David.
(2) Rescue me, L-rd, from an evil person; protect me from the robber,
(3) from those who plot evil in their hearts and provoke war every day,
(4) who sharpen their tongues like a serpent; the venom of a snake is under their lips. Selah!
(5) Guard me, L-rd, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from the robber, from those who plot to make my footsteps falter.
(6) The arrogant have hidden a snare and ropes for me; they have spread a net along the road and set traps for me. Selah!
(7) I say to the L-rd: You are my G-d; listen, L-rd, to the voice of my supplication.
(8) L-rd G-d, the strength of my salvation, You have shielded my head on the day of war.
(9) Do not grant, L-rd, the desires of the wicked; do not let his evil schemes succeed, lest they become exalted. Selah!
(10) As for the head of those surrounding me—may the evil of their lips cover him.
(11) May burning coals fall upon them; may He cast them into fire, into deep pits, so that they will not rise.
(12) May a slanderous person not become established on earth; the malicious robber will be caught and overthrown.
(13) I know that the L-rd will carry out justice for the poor, and judgment for the needy.
(14) Surely the righteous will thank Your Name; the upright will dwell in Your presence.
