Causes of Problems with Parnassah
All sins connected with Parnassah are sins that testify to a lack of faith, namely:
1) the sin of theft; 2) wasting seed; 3) outbursts of anger or attacks of despondency; 4) using contraception without the rabbi's permission;
If a person has not committed any of the sins listed above, the general problem—lack of faith—is pointed out to him. This means that one must acquire faith at any cost. The Sages teach that whoever recites the 145th Psalm three times a day will merit a worthy livelihood, because this psalm is the foundation of faith: "You open Your hand and satisfy every living thing generously" (Tehillim 145:16)
Segulot for Parnassah Tovah:
1) for those living in Israel—precisely setting aside maaser; for those living in the galut—honoring Shabbat; 2) properly performing Netilat Yadayim; 3) reciting Birkat Hamazon joyfully and with kavanah; 4) generous tzedakah (even in very difficult circumstances—that is precisely when it is more valuable); 5) honoring one's wife (bringing joy to one's wife—for when a husband brings joy to his wife through purchases such as clothing and jewelry, and through attention, her soul expands, and accordingly, the vessel for the family's Parnassah expands.
