Patach Eliyahu — Transliteration and Russian Translation (exclusively on our site)

“Patach Eliyahu” is an excerpt from the Tikkunei Zohar (Tikkunim, p. 17a).

The Mekubalim teach that “Patach Eliyahu” describes how Shefa (Divine abundance) descends to us through the Sefirot and seeks to connect us with the Kabbalistic form of tefillah, which consists of transforming one’s character and one’s relationship with the Al-mighty. Sephardim recite “Patach Eliyahu” before each of the three daily prayers; Chassidim recite it before Mincha on Shabbat.

Segulot of Patach Eliyahu

1. A prayer at Ayelet HaShachar Chazal teach that reciting this prayer before dawn—at Ayelet HaShachar—is a great segulah, so that one’s tefillot will be accepted (“Moreh Ba’Etzba”). For more details, follow the link: “Patach Eliyahu” — Prayer at Ayelet HaShachar, a Segula for Prayers to Be Accepted   2. 23 Shevat: the yahrzeit of Rabbi Yaakov Chaim Yisrael Rafael Alfiah Before his passing, Rabbi Alfiah promised that whoever recited “Patach Eliyahu” on the day of his hillula, lit a candle for the elevation of his soul, and asked for one specific request, he would pray for that person personally and intercede for him Above. – Give tzedakah; – Light a candle and say: “I am reciting “Patach Eliyahu” le-khavod u-le-ilui nishmat Rabbi Yaakov Chaim Yisrael Rafael ben Yitzchak ve-Sarah Alfiah”; – Recite the prayer “Patach Eliyahu”; – Then ask for one request, that the tzadik intercede for you before the Al-mighty—state your name and your mother’s name—and, with G-d’s help, your prayer will be answered. Elijah the prophet, may he be remembered for good, began and said: Master of the worlds, You are One, and there is no numerical reckoning of You. You are higher than all that is high, concealed from all that is concealed, and no thought can grasp You at all. You are the One who brought forth ten configurations, which we call the ten Sefirot, to govern through them the concealed worlds, which are not revealed, and the revealed worlds, through which You conceal Yourself from human beings. You are the One who binds them together and unifies them. Since You are within them, anyone who separates one of these ten Sefirot from the others is considered as though he had separated it from You. And these ten Sefirot proceed in the following order: one long, one short, and one intermediate. You are the One who directs them, and there is no one who directs You—not above, not below, and not from any side. You prepared garments for them, from which souls fly forth to human beings. You also prepared numerous bodies for them, which are called “bodies” in relation to the garments that cover them, and which are called according to this arrangement: • Chesed (lovingkindness)—the right arm; • Gevurah (strength)—the left arm; • Tiferet (beauty)—the body; • Netzach and Hod (eternity and glory)—the two thighs; • Yesod (foundation)—the end of the body, the sign of the Holy Covenant; • Malchut (kingship)—the mouth, the Oral Torah; • Chochmah (wisdom)—the brain, the inner aspect of thought; • Binah (understanding)—the heart, through which the heart understands. Concerning these two it is written: “The hidden things belong to the L-rd our G-d.” • Keter (crown)—the supernal Crown, the Crown of Kingship, concerning which it is said: “He declares the end from the beginning.” It is the place where tefillin are worn. Within the Sefirot is the Name of the Al-mighty: the letter yud, the letter hei, the letter vav, and the letter hei—and this is the path of the world of Atzilut. He is the nourishment of the Tree through its arms and branches, like water that irrigates a tree, causing it to grow through that nourishment. Master of the worlds, You are the Cause of causes and the Source of sources, watering the Tree with that flow. That flow is like a soul to the body, which gives life to the body. You have no likeness and no image, neither within nor without. You created the heavens and the earth, and brought forth from them the sun, the moon, the stars, and the constellations. On earth You created trees, plants, the Garden of Eden, grasses, animals, birds, fish, cattle, and human beings, so that the higher beings might be known through them, and so that one might understand how the higher and lower beings are governed. Yet no one knows You at all. Apart from You there is no unity in the higher or lower realms. You are known as Master over all. Each Sefirah has a known name, and by these names the angels are called. You, however, have no known name, for You fill all names and are the perfection of them all. When You withdraw from them, all the names remain like a body without a soul. You are wise, but not through a knowable wisdom; You understand, but not through a knowable understanding. You have no known place, except insofar as You make Your strength and power known to human beings and show them how the world is governed through judgment and mercy, which are righteousness and justice, according to people’s deeds. • Judgment (Din)—Gevurah; • Justice (Mishpat)—the middle pillar; • Righteousness (Tzedek)—the holy kingdom; • The scales of righteousness—the two pillars of truth. Tzedek is the sign of the Holy Covenant. All of these demonstrate how the world is governed, but You are not knowable as Tzedek, for that is judgment; nor as Mishpat, for that is mercy; nor through any of these attributes at all. Arise, Rabbi Shimon, and let words be renewed through you! For permission has been granted to you to reveal supernal, hidden mysteries—the permission that until now had not been granted to any human being. Rabbi Shimon arose and began, saying: “Yours, O L-rd, are greatness and strength…” Hear, supernal beings! You who sleep in Hebron, and the Faithful Shepherd: awaken from your sleep. Awaken and rejoice, you who dwell in the dust. These are the tzadikim who belong to the side of the one concerning whom it is said, “I sleep, but my heart is awake,” and they are not dead. Therefore it is said of them, “Awaken and rejoice.” Faithful Shepherd, you and the Patriarchs, awaken and rejoice, to awaken the Shechinah, which sleeps in exile, while all the tzadikim lie asleep and slumber in their graves. At once the Shechinah addressed the Faithful Shepherd with three voices and said to him: “Arise, Faithful Shepherd! For concerning you it is said, ‘The voice of my beloved knocks,’ with His four letters. And He says through them, ‘Open for me, my sister, my beloved, my dove, my perfect one.’ For your iniquity has come to an end, daughter of Zion; He will exile you no longer. ‘For my head is filled with dew’—what is this dew? Rather, the Holy One, blessed be He, said: ‘You thought that from the day the Temple was destroyed I ascended to My house and entered My settlement? It is not so, for I have not ascended for as long as you have been in exile.’ Here is your sign: ‘For my head is filled with dew.’ The final hei of the Name is the Shechinah in exile. Her wholeness and life are the dew. This is the meaning of the letters yud-hei-vav-hei: the Shechinah is not counted as tal, dew, whose numerical value is 39; rather, the letters yud-hei-vav, whose numerical value is 39, fill the Shechinah from the flow of all the supernal sources.” At once the Faithful Shepherd arose, together with the holy Patriarchs. Until this point is the secret of Unity. Blessed is the L-rd forever, amen and amen!   (When a minyan is present, Kaddish “Al Yisrael” is recited here.)   You can listen to “Patach Eliyahu” in Aramaic here: https://dailyzohar.com/the-secrets-of-pathach-eliyahu-elijah-opened/     (The Hebrew text and transliteration are reproduced with the permission of Rabbi Baruch Malaev from the Siddur Tefillat Moshe; translation by Rabbi Alexander Tzvi Sypkov.)
